Storing and caring for jewellery: how a diamond in glass stays brilliant

Most marks are made in the jewellery box. A diamond is the hardest natural material and scratches everything it touches, including glass and other stones. Chains knot when they lie loose. Whoever stores jewellery separately prevents both.

• Every piece separately, ideally in its original packaging.
• Store chains fastened or hanging so they do not knot.
• Store dry and avoid extreme temperatures, so not on the radiator and not at a sunny window.
• When travelling, a padded case with individual compartments.
• Do not leave jewellery lying open in the bathroom, where moisture and cosmetics reach it.

• Clean the piece with a soft, lint-free polishing cloth.
• If necessary, dampen the cloth slightly with lukewarm water and then polish dry.
• Never put a diamond in glass in water and never in an ultrasonic bath.
• Avoid aggressive cleaners and chemicals such as perfume, hairspray or household cleaners.

Put jewellery on once perfume, cream and hairspray have dried, and take it off first. Before sleeping, showering, swimming, sport and physical work it belongs in its case.

Chlorine in the pool and salt water in the sea attack metal alloys. Also protect the piece from hard knocks: the glass is robust, but not an indestructible material.
