Yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum: which metal suits you

Yellow gold looks warm and classic, white gold cool and modern, rose gold soft, and platinum is naturally white and particularly durable. Warm skin tones often wear yellow and rose gold, cool ones rather white gold and platinum. At diamonds in glass® every piece is made in 14K or 18K gold or in platinum.

The choice of metal decides more than one might think. It determines the effect on the skin, the mood of a piece and, with a diamond in glass, also the light that surrounds the stone.

The options at diamonds in glass®

Every piece is made in 14K or 18K gold or in platinum. Gold comes in three colours: yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. The carat number describes the gold content: 14 carat corresponds to 585 parts of gold per 1000, 18 carat to 750 parts.

Yellow gold: warm and classic

Yellow gold is the tone most people think of when they think of gold. It looks warm and lively and lets the diamond step into a golden frame. In 18 carat the colour is slightly richer than in 14 carat, because the gold content is higher.

White gold: cool and modern

White gold is created when gold is alloyed with light metals. In jewellery making it usually also receives a rhodium layer that heightens the cool shine. White gold looks understated and puts the diamond fully in the foreground.

Rose gold: the soft tone

Rose gold owes its colour to the copper in the alloy. It looks soft and romantic and flatters many skin tones. Next to a diamond in glass it brings a quiet warmth into the light.

Platinum: dense and naturally white

Platinum is denser and heavier than gold and naturally white; it needs no coating. It is considered particularly durable and is often chosen by people who want to wear a piece every day for a lifetime.

And the colour of the glass?

With a diamond in glass, the metal plays together with a second colour, that of the glass. Warm glass tones deepen yellow and rose gold, light and clear glass makes white gold and platinum look even cooler. In a personal conversation both can be matched together.

Frequently asked questions

Answered briefly

  • Both look white. Platinum is naturally white, denser and heavier; white gold usually gets its cool shine from a rhodium layer. Which suits better depends on how the piece will be worn.

  • As a rule of thumb, warm skin tones often wear yellow and rose gold, cool ones rather white gold and platinum. In the end your own style decides; if in doubt, compare directly on the skin.

  • The carat number describes the gold content. 14 carat is 585 parts gold per 1000, 18 carat 750 parts. 18 carat is therefore richer in gold and looks slightly deeper in yellow and rose gold.

  • Yes. Every piece is made to order in 14K or 18K gold, in yellow, white or rose, or in platinum.
