Fancy colours: champagne, mint and the rare colours

With a white diamond the whole grading works against colour: the more colourless, the more valuable. Fancy colour diamonds turn this logic around. Here colour is not a drawback but the rare event that makes a stone unique.

Colour in a diamond arises from trace elements or peculiarities in the crystal lattice. In white stones even a slight yellow tint reduces the value. If the colouring exceeds a certain intensity, however, the stone leaves the white scale and is graded as a fancy colour, by its own logic, in which saturation and purity of the colour count.

Champagne, mint green and yellow form the more accessible fancy colours. They possess a warm, independent presence and unfold a particular depth in the glass. A champagne diamond, for instance, carries soft, golden-brown tones that look calm and refined in the gathered light of the glass body.

Red, pink and blue are among the rarest diamond colours of all. Red diamonds count among the fewest stones ever found worldwide. At diamonds in glass® these colours are made on request only; the stone is sourced individually and documented.

Instead of an arbitrary list of variants there is a deliberately assembled colour world. Every colour is chosen for how it works in the glass and what presence it gives the object.

Not only the stone has colour. The background in the glass is also used deliberately: to create contrast, to generate depth and to heighten the effect of the diamond. Two colour decisions thus become a single, closed composition.
